Hozelock Hose Connectors the Complete Guide

Hozelock's click-and-connect system makes attaching and detaching hoses, spray guns and accessories effortless no tools, no leaks, no fumbling. This guide explains every connector type and how they work together.

How the Hozelock connector system works

The Hozelock system is a universal click-and-connect standard that links every part of your outdoor watering setup from the tap to the hose, and from the hose to your spray gun, sprinkler or watering wand. Every Hozelock accessory clicks directly into every Hozelock connector, giving you a completely modular, leak-free system.

Understanding the system means buying the right parts first time. There are four connection points in a typical setup, each needing a different type of connector:

1
Outdoor Tap → Tap Connector
A tap connector screws onto the threaded end of your outdoor tap. It has a female thread to accept the tap and a Hozelock male fitting on the other end. Most UK outdoor taps are ½" or ¾" BSP the Hozelock universal tap connector fits both.
2
Tap → Hose: Hose End Connector
A hose end connector is pushed onto and secured to the tap end of your hosepipe. It has a barbed hose-tail that grips the inside of the hose and a Hozelock female socket that clicks onto the tap connector. Twin soft-touch pads on the outside make it easy to attach and detach, even with wet or muddy hands.
3
Hose → Accessory: Aquastop Connector
An Aquastop connector fits on the other end of the hose the accessory end. It has a built-in valve that automatically stops the water flow the moment you disconnect a spray gun or sprinkler, so you don't get soaked when swapping accessories. Your gun or sprinkler simply clicks into the Aquastop connector.
4
Accessory End → Spray Gun or Sprinkler
All Hozelock spray guns, wands, sprinklers and lances have a male Hozelock fitting that clicks directly into the Aquastop connector. Changing from a spray gun to a sprinkler mid-water takes one second press, pull, swap, click.
Universal compatibility across the range
Every Hozelock connector, accessory and fitting uses the same click-connect standard meaning any Hozelock gun, sprinkler, wand or timer will click into any Hozelock Aquastop connector, regardless of when it was made.

Types of Hozelock hose connector

Six main connector types cover every connection point in a Hozelock system. Here's what each one does and when you need it.

TAP
CONNECTOR
Tap Connector
Connection point 1 — at the tap
Outdoor Tap Connector
Screws directly onto your outdoor tap thread. The Hozelock universal tap connector fits standard ½" and ¾" BSP taps the vast majority of UK outdoor taps. Once fitted, every Hozelock hose end connector simply clicks on and off without touching the tap connector itself. Some models include a double tap connector to run two hoses simultaneously.
HOSE END
CONNECTOR
Hose End Connector
Connection point 2 — tap end of hose
Hose End Connector
Fits onto the tap end of your hosepipe. A barbed hose-tail inserts into the hose and polypropylene teeth grip the outside to lock it firmly in place no hose clips needed. The body features twin soft-touch pads and a triple contact point design using DuPont Delrin® Acetal for maximum strength. Fits 12.5mm (½") and 15mm (⅝") hoses.
AQUASTOP
CONNECTOR
Aquastop Connector
Connection point 3 - accessory end of hose
Aquastop Connector
The most important connector in the system. Fits on the accessory end of your hose and contains a built-in automatic shutoff valve. When you disconnect a spray gun or sprinkler, the valve closes instantly stopping water flow so you don't get soaked and no water is wasted. All Hozelock accessories click directly into the Aquastop. Available in standard and Plus (flexible hose-tail) versions.
PRO
RANGE
Pro Connectors
Premium choice
Hose End Connector Pro & Aquastop Pro
The Pro range upgrades the standard connectors with a zinc die-cast metal sleeve for scratch and frost resistance ideal for gardeners who leave connectors on the hose year-round. The DuPont Delrin® Acetal internals remain the same for strength and reliability, but the exterior feels distinctly premium. Backed by Hozelock's 3-year guarantee. Fits the same hose sizes as standard.
JOINERS
& SPLITTERS
Hose Joiners
Extend or join hoses
Hose Joiners & Splitters
Join two hoses end to end to extend your reach, or use a Y-splitter to run two hoses from one tap. Hozelock hose joiners use the same click-connect mechanism as all other fittings no tools, no jubilee clips. A double tap connector with two independent shutoffs is also available for running two separate hoses simultaneously from one outdoor tap.
REPAIR
CONNECTORS
Repair Connectors
Fix a damaged hose
Hose Repair & Extend Connectors
Cut out a split, cracked or kinked section of hose and join the two ends back together with a Hozelock hose repair connector. Available for 12.5mm and 15mm hose. The barbed design grips both hose ends firmly for a watertight join. A much cheaper fix than replacing the entire hose most repairs take under two minutes.

Standard vs Pro — which should you choose?

Hozelock offers two tiers of connector Standard and Pro. The internal mechanism is identical; the difference is in the exterior sleeve and what that means for longevity and appearance.

Our recommendation
If you bring your hose and fittings indoors over winter, the standard connectors are perfectly good for many years of use. If you leave your hose reel outside all year or want the peace of mind of a 3-year guarantee, the Pro range is worth the small extra cost.

Connector compatibility & sizing

The Hozelock click-connect standard has been consistent for decades, so older and newer fittings work together. However, there are a few sizing details worth knowing before you buy:

Check your hose diameter first
Standard UK garden hoses are 12.5mm (½"). Larger hoses are 15mm (⅝"). Hozelock connectors fit both, but always check your hose packaging or measure the outside diameter before buying.

UK tap thread — BSP standard
The Hozelock universal tap connector fits ½" BSP (21mm) and ¾" BSP (26.5mm) the two UK standard outdoor tap sizes. If your tap is non-standard, adapters are available.

Older Hozelock fittings
The Hozelock click-connect standard has been consistent for over 30 years. Old connectors will work with new guns and vice versa you can gradually upgrade individual parts without replacing the whole system.

Third-party compatibility
Many non-Hozelock spray guns and sprinklers also use the Hozelock click-connect standard. However, for guaranteed fit and performance we always recommend genuine Hozelock accessories.

Starter sets available
Not sure where to start? Hozelock sell complete connector sets with a tap connector, hose end connector and Aquastop connector in one box everything you need to set up a new hose.
Works with water timers
All Hozelock water timers fit between the tap connector and the hose end connector simply screw the timer onto the tap connector and the hose end connector onto the timer outlet.
Hozelock connectors ≠ irrigation fittings
Hozelock's hose connectors (covered on this page) are for garden hose systems. Hozelock's irrigation fittings for 13mm and 4mm micro-irrigation pipe are a separate range. Don't confuse the two: hose connectors won't fit on 13mm irrigation pipe, and irrigation fittings won't connect to a garden hose.

Frequently asked questions

Yes they do different jobs. The hose end connector fits the tap end of the hose and clicks onto the tap connector. The Aquastop connector fits the accessory end and is where your spray gun or sprinkler clicks on. Most hoses need one of each. Some hoses come pre-fitted with both; if not, you'll need to buy them separately.
Yes as long as your hose is 12.5mm or 15mm diameter, Hozelock connectors will fit it. The barbed hose-tail and hose grip are designed for standard-diameter hosepipe regardless of brand. If your hose is a different diameter, Hozelock also makes adapters for a range of sizes.

Leaks at the hose-connector join are usually caused by the connector not being fully pushed onto the hose before the hose grip is tightened. Remove the connector, push the hose-tail fully into the hose end, then press the hose firmly over the barbs as far as it will go before securing the grip. If the hose is old and hardened, try warming the end in hot water for a minute to soften it first.
No. An Aquastop connector goes on the accessory end of your hose and automatically stops water flow when you disconnect a gun or sprinkler it's part of the main hose system. A stop connector (also called an end cap) is used in drip irrigation to seal the end of a 13mm supply pipe. They are completely different products for different purposes.

Standard connectors are fine if brought indoors or stored in a frost-free location. If you leave your hose on a reel outside year-round, go for the Pro range the zinc die-cast sleeve is specifically designed to resist frost and UV, and comes with a 3-year guarantee. Either way, disconnect from the tap before the first frost to prevent damage to the tap itself.

Yes. All Hozelock water timers sit between the tap connector and the hose. The tap connector screws onto the bottom of the timer, the timer screws directly onto the tap or tap splitter/adapter. The hose end connector clicks onto the timer's outlet. The Aquastop connector and accessories on the other end of the hose and work as normal.
