Buying guide

Not sure where to start? This guide matches your garden type to the right Hozelock watering solution — so you buy exactly what you need, first time.

Choose by garden type

Find the recommended solution based on what you're watering. Most gardens need a mix of two or more types.

Pots & Containers
Patios, decking, balconies

Pots dry out quickly and need the most frequent watering. A drip system with individual drippers per pot is the most efficient solution — each pot gets a measured amount of water directly at the root.

Borders & Flower Beds
Planted borders, cottage gardens

For planted borders with shrubs and perennials, micro-jet sprayers on adjustable stakes give wide, gentle coverage across an entire bed. Soaker hose laid along the length of a border is an even simpler option.

Lawn
Grass, established turf

For a small to medium lawn, an oscillating or rotating sprinkler connected to a tap timer is the easiest solution. For a larger or shaped lawn, a pop-up sprinkler system delivers professional results with zero effort.

Vegetable Patch
Veg beds, raised beds, allotments

Vegetables need consistent, reliable watering — especially in summer. Soaker hose laid along rows delivers water at root level without wetting foliage, which reduces disease. Pair with a timer for hands-free growing.

Greenhouse
Propagation, tomatoes, seedlings

Greenhouses heat up fast and plants can suffer in hours without water. A dedicated greenhouse watering kit with misting nozzles or drippers, combined with an automatic timer, is essential for reliable results.

Large or Multi-Zone Garden
Multiple beds, lawn + borders

A garden with multiple different areas needs a multi-zone approach — separate pipe runs for pots, borders and lawn, all controlled by a single smart timer. Plan carefully and use tee connectors to branch your supply pipe.

Don't mix drip and micro-jets on the same pipe run
They work at different flow rates. Run separate pipe branches for each type, connected from the same main supply pipe using a tee connector.

Choose a water controller

Every automatic watering system needs a controller. Here's how the Hozelock range stacks up — from simple mechanical timers to full smart home integration.

Not sure which controller to choose?
For most gardens, the Select Controller 2220 is the sweet spot — simple to program, reliable and affordable. Upgrade to the Sensor or Cloud Controller if you want set-and-forget automation or smartphone control.
